Maroochy-Northshore captain Ryan White reckons he has stumbled upon the Roos’ secret to success – getting the club to open its chequebook.

The Roos survived a massive scare from Aspley to register just their second win of the Pineapple Hotel Cup at Fisherman’s Road yesterday.

Leading by as much as 42 points late in the third term, the home team withstood a brutal final quarter assault from the Hornets to win 14.11 (95) to 12.17 (89).

And White believes it may have something to do with the Roos new clubhouse, which was broken in with the club’s annual “Blue and White Ball” last night.

“It’s pretty funny. We got new guernseys the last time we won (against Springwood) and now we’ve got our new clubrooms we’ve got another one,” he said.

“Perhaps we should just keep buying new stuff and we’ll get some wins up.”

Trailing by two points at the first change, the Roos dominated the middle two quarters to take a 36-point lead at three-quarter time.

However, Aspley kicked five unanswered final term goals to fall just short of a miraculous comeback, the siren sounding with the visitors deep in attack.

White said the effort put in by his side in the opening three quarters eventually took its tool in the fourth quarter.

“We gave it our all for those three quarters and we’ve had a couple of heavy games in the rain on the Gold Coast recently, so our legs got a bit heavy in the end,” he said.

The roof on their new clubhouse hasn’t been up long, but the Roos players did their best to blow it off afterward with a very raucous rendition of their club song.

“Yeah, there was a fair bit of passion in that one,” White said.

No doubt those beers they blew the froth off last night tasted just that little bit sweeter too.

Roos ruckmen Brad Stefanovic and Brent McArdle were superb for the home side all day, gifting their midfield first use of the ball and contributing four goals between them in the process.

Meanwhile, Noosa annihilated Mayne 28.17 (185) to 6.7 (43).
