Sunshine Coast Swim School director of coaching Brian Stehr is set to provide swim coaching services at the Noosa Aquatic Centre.
Sunshine Coast Council’s director of community services (north) Charlie Eames is pleased with the new appointment.
“This is a great opportunity for council to partner with a swim coach with an international reputation,” Mr Eames said.
“Brian Stehr is among the Coast’s most qualified swimming coaches, with over 25 years’ experience, 20 years of which have been on the Sunshine Coast.”
Mr Stehr has coached some of Australia’s best swimmers, including Nick Darcy, who will now be training at the Noosa Aquatic Centre, Melanie Schlanger (2008 Beijing Olympics), Damien Dawben (Australian Oceania Rep 1994) and Lucy Saville (Qld Youth Team).
In the 80s he coached Grant Kenny, Clint Robinson and Guy Leech when they were juniors on the Gold Coast, so he certainly has a great history with Queenslanders.
Noosa Aquatic Centre co-ordinator Stephen James said Brian Stehr was a great addition to the centre.
“Council is very excited to have taken the first step in developing a long-term relationship with a Brian, a Gold Licence Swim Coach,” Mr James said.
“The program that Brian will develop caters for Olympic athletes’ right through to those wanting general skills and fitness.”
Mr Stehr believes the new partnership between Sunshine Coast Swim School and the council will benefit all involved, particularly the community.
“We are very excited to be partnering with council to provide a high quality swim coaching program in Noosa,” he said.
“We pride ourselves on providing swimmers with correct technique for all strokes at all levels, allowing individuals to progress at their own rate.”
The swim coach program is due to begin on October 6 at the Noosa Aquatic Centre.
More information is available from the centre on 5448 0288.
